C.S. Lewis On The Scarcity Mindset

When C.S. Lewis wrote The Screwtape Letters, he wrote as an experienced demon giving advice to his young, protege demon. In this writing, when he refers to the “the Enemy” he’s talking about God, and “our Father” is the devil.

“The Enemy’s demand on humans takes the form of a dilemma; either complete abstinence or unmitigated monogamy. Ever since our Father’s first great victory, we have rendered the former very difficult to them. The latter, for the last few centuries, we have been closing up as a way of escape. We have done this through the poets and novelists by persuading the humans that a curious, and usually shortlived, experience which they call ‘being in love’ is the only respectable ground for marriage; that marriage can, and ought to, render this excitement permanent; and that a marriage which does not do so is no longer binding. This idea is our parody of an idea that came from the Enemy. The whole philosophy of Hell rests on recognition of the axiom that one thing is not another thing, and, specially, that one self is not another self. My good is my good and your good is yours. What one gains another loses. 15 Invaluable Laws Of Growth & JumpStart Your Growth (two book reviews)

When you read a John Maxwell book, you are going to get a full serving of practical counsel to help you soar. I just finished reading 15 Invaluable Laws Of Growth, and my highlighter almost ran dry marking all of the helpful passages!

Dr. Maxwell states right up front that no one grows by accident, but we need to have a plan to help us grow. Consider this book your growth manual from someone who has the life experience to back-up his words of wisdom. Every chapter builds on the ones before to help you remove any hindrances to your growth.

Not only are Maxwell books instructional, they are motivational as well. I have heard him say numerous times, “Hi, my name is John, and I’m your friend.” Indeed this book feels like a wise friend is sitting across the table from you, giving you pearls of wisdom and practical steps to apply that wisdom, as well as cheering you on to success.

A great companion to 15 Laws is JumpStart Your Growth. This book is designed for you to read one selection each day for three months. You will be reminded of a principle John taught you in 15 Laws, but then you will find a blank journal page with a suggested exercise for that day. I would highly recommend reading JumpStart right after you complete 15 Laws, so that you are putting into practice the phenomenal truths you were just taught.

What Does God Think About You?

Josh Schram, our youth pastor, brought an amazing message to us Sunday morning. I have included the link to his full message below, but here are a few of my take-aways from his message.

Often we think about God’s thoughts of us the way we think about ourselves. That means sometimes I think He really loves me, and sometimes I think His love for me has cooled off a bit.

TRUTH: God’s love for me is not conditional on my circumstances or on my status. His love is unconditional … He couldn’t love me anymore than He already does!

In Luke 15, we see that the religious leaders didn’t like Jesus hanging around “sinners.” Why? Because those “sinners” should be getting the punishment they deserved, not getting Christ’s undivided attention (vv. 1-2).

When Jesus told His first two parables, it seems as if the Pharisees were more concerned about a lost coin or a lost sheep than they were about a lost person (vv. 3-10)! Do I feel that God is more concerned about a lost “thing” than He is about me?

To make the point perfectly clear, Jesus told the story of the lost son (vv. 11-32). The son deserved punishment. He came home covered in pig poop. But the son was STILL the father’s son and he loved his son no less than the day he left home!

The wrong way of thinking—God loves me less because I mess up.

The right way of thinking—God loves me unconditionally just as I am.

Are You Getting Sick Yet?

Have you seen enough? How much more do you need to see before you will do something? When is it enough that you will speak out?

The Center For Medical Progress is doing amazing work in uncovering the absolutely disgusting—and illegal!—practices of Planned Parenthood.

In this latest video, notice the calloused way this Planned Parenthood official calls babies “products of conception.” Are you kidding me?! It’s a human being, not a “product of conception”!

She matter-of-factly talks about her level of “specimen collection” and how “my department contributes so much to the bottom line.”

God, have mercy!

A recent attempt to defund Planned Parenthood failed in the United States Senate on a procedural vote. However, if more people will decrying these abominable practices to their Senator, there is NO WAY they could hide behind this again!

Please contact your Representative and Senators to tell them to defund Planned Parenthood, and put an end to these murderous practices.
