Setting The Example For Us

FundraiserWhen Paul was writing to his young protege Timothy he said, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). I was so proud of a couple of young people who did this for us at Calvary Assembly of God yesterday!

Savannah has been raising money for childhood cancer research. She shared with us how this is the least-funded form of cancer research, and that every three minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. “That is unacceptable,” Savannah said. So in an amazing example-setting move for all of us, Savannah and two of her coworkers worked to bring in over $3000 in donations for childhood cancer research, and they shaved their heads as a sign of solidarity with the children undergoing cancer treatments. By the way, you can still donate to this noble cause by clicking here.

Then Josh brought us a challenging message entitled Are You Growing? Taking his text from 1 Corinthians 3:6, Josh reminded us that God makes things grow, but we can put ourselves in a place for Him to do that. Just as with a plant, our spiritual growth requires:

  • Sunshine—basking in God’s presence.
  • Water—soaking up God’s Word.
  • Nutrients—surrounding ourselves with the people and things that encourage growth.
  • Time—the dedication and investment in God’s process.

I am so proud of Josh and Savannah for setting an example for us to follow!

Lifewalk 2013

Lifewalk logo 2013I am grateful for Alpha Family Center in Cedar Springs. They provide resources for our community to promote life, including pregnancy testing, counseling, and other parental resources for young families in our community. They stand solidly for life.

And I want to stand with them.

Lifewalk is the annual fundraiser for Alpha. This one event brings in a significant amount of the annual budget that Alpha needs. Will you consider sponsoring me as I walk in Lifewalk?

If you would like to sponsor me or make a donation, please comment below or email me by clicking here, and I’ll get more details to you.

Thanks for helping me walk for life.

EnGedi Youth Center

EnGedi Poster 2013I am so privileged to work as the director of the EnGedi Youth Center. EnGedi is a Christ-centered after-school program in the Cedar Springs schools.

Each afternoon we provide the students with a healthy snack, and opportunity to get some tutoring or some homework help, and then lots of classes and sports opportunities. The relationships I’ve made this school year with both the students and their parents have been so rewarding!

EnGedi needs your help.

This is a privately funded 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. So EnGedi is dependent upon the contributions of businesses, churches, and individuals to provide our operating funds. On Friday, May 17, you have a chance to help us reach even more students in Cedar Springs by participating in our fundraising auction.

There will be silent auctions, live auctions with auctioneer Art Smith, desserts, and lots of other fun activities.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate items that we can auction off
  • Make a cash donation to EnGedi
  • Attend the auction on May 17 and bid on lots of great items

We have a corporate sponsor who will match each dollar spent at our auction up to $10,000. That means for every $1 you spend, EnGedi gets $2. It’s a WIN all the way around.

If you would like to be involved, or if you have any questions, please click here to email me.

LikeWalk 2010

Just wanted to get this on everyone’s radar screen. I love Alpha Family Center and totally believe in their mission. This is a very simple way for you to get involved and to help support Alpha.

This walk is their major fundraiser of the year. So go to their website (click here), get a pledge form, find some sponsors, and then come walk with me on Saturday, June 19.

Rockin’ for Haiti

We are hosting another benefit show at Calvary Assembly of God. Our first show was a fundraiser for Latin America Child Care, and it was very well received.

This rock show is a fundraiser for Convoy of Hope. COH is a wonderful humanitarian organization that is bringing food, water purification systems, and other vital personnel and supplies into two areas that have been ravaged by earthquakes: Haiti and Chile.

It’s just a $2 cover charge to get in. Currently we have three local bands scheduled to perform. All our proceeds will go directly to COH.

Join us on Friday, March 19, doors open at 7 PM.
