Mixed Signals

The Methodist church by my house has a marquee that faces a busy expressway. Today, as I drove by I, read their latest message: “Pay attention to your destination, not your speed.”

“Hmmm,” thought, “I wonder how the police department feels about that?”

No sooner had the thought passed through my head and I saw the flashing lights of a police officer with a car pulled over on the shoulder! I can almost imagine the driver’s frantic plea to the officer, “But, officer, the church back there told me…!”

This humorous scene reminded me of two quotes:

  • “It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.” —Francis of Assisi
  • “Where one man reads the Bible, a hundred read you and me.” —Dwight L. Moody

May the “signs” of our lives never send mixed signals to the people “reading” us.

Love the Mixed Signals message, Craig! You are absolutely right on! Truth is integrity and we make that choice daily, not just once and then forget about how to walk it out. Blessings!

Bare with me if I’ve said this here before…
The percentage of people in the general public (work, community meetings, etc.) who have adamantly and permanently kicked God to the curb is staggering. What’s heart WRENCHING is that the reason they give is the way that they’ve been treated in church or by ‘Christians.’ I was reminded just today as an associate recited what they all say in some form: “I used to go to church once and then saw their crazy behavior and I said heck with this!”

My response is to sincerely apologize and say that many of us are aware of this tragedy. I might say we’re all just hurting humans and then I always invite them to my church. Let’s circulate a poetically versed petition of apology and get a million signatures.

Jennifer: Right on! It is a DAILY choice. Integrity doesn’t take a day off.

Kelly: I love your idea! I’m no poet, so if you can get the statement started, I’ll certainly help circulate it.
