“It was François Fenelon who pointed out that nothing is so offensive to a haughty heart as the sight of another. It is relatively easy to discern a prideful heart in another, primarily because we are so riddled with it ourselves. Fools focus on what is arrogant about others. The wise have the lowliness to seek and find arrogance in themselves. In the mercy of God, there is a lag (of various lengths depending on His variables) between our pride and our destruction, and there is a space He affords us that we might repent and forsake arrogance. But destruction is the inevitable consequence of pride, and it is foolish to see it in others and deny it in ourselves.” —Dick Brogden, in ‘Proverbs: Amplified and Applied’

In Mary’s Magnificat in Luke 1:46-55, she sings about both the humble and the proud. Look what she notices:
✅ God is mindful of the humble ❌ God scatters the proud
✅ God blesses the humble ❌ God brings down the proud
✅ God shows mercy to the humble ❌ God sends the proud away empty
✅ God does mighty deeds for the humble
✅ God lifts the humble
✅ God fills the humble
✅ God helps the humble
What power and blessings are lavished on the humble, and what frustration is unleashed on the proud!
