If the Bible says this…
Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it. (Ephesians 4:29 AMP)
…does my texting, blogging, Facebooking, and Tweeting line up?
Does yours?
Wow!

Craig, this verse both enjoins negative speech and encourages positive speech. I think we easily slip into the idea that our speech pleases God simply because we refrain from prurient or degrading language. God wants language that uplifts, inspires, and builds.
My challenge, and I’m betting yours, is to develop a mindset that whatever I say or write matters: it advances or impedes the Kingdom. What and how I communicate is deeply important, even the small things, because a tone of voice or a facial expression can uplift or weigh down another’s spirit.

Right on, Frank. It’s NOT just avoiding saying bad things … it IS saying the right things as well.

Wish the lady that cussed me out in the Meijer checkout lane yesterday could have read this before she started her day.
