All-In All The Time

In the opening 11 verses of Paul’s letter to the saints at Philippi, I notice some very large, all-encompassing words and phrases. Things like…

  • I think my God every time I remember you (v. 3)
  • In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy (v. 4)
  • The good work in you will carry on to completion (v. 6)
  • How I long for all of you (v. 8)
  • That you may be filled with the fruit of righteousness (v. 11)

I take this to mean that there are no “down times” in our Christian walk. It’s not like going to a job site, doing our job for the day, and then going back home and forgetting about our work. It’s not just something we do on Sundays at a church gathering, but then forget about for the next six days.

It is who we are and it is who we are becoming. It’s all-in all of the time.

It’s all God’s people all sharing in His grace, and seeking to make His love known to the world.

It’s all our prayers every time we think of our partnership with other saints and our mission as disciple-makers.

It’s looking forward to the completion of our calling in Jesus.

It’s seeking God’s best in all of the settings where He places us.

It’s about being filled to overflowing with God’s righteousness so that His glory and praise fill our world.

It’s not something to dabble in. It’s not something to turn to only when we need a pick-me-up. It’s not something we treat like a casual hobby.

It’s all-in all of the time.

This is the prayer I am praying, and I hope you will join me in this—

Holy Spirit, help me to be even more aware of any moments or settings where I may forget that I am to be all-in. I don’t want there to be a single moment where I am not fully engaged in Kingdom-building work.
